Hello. I am starting this journey to actually read the Bible. I am hoping to follow this through the year and enrich my life with God’s word.
I am a converted Catholic. I went through R.CI.A. back in 2006-2007. I didn’t grow up in a very religious home. I was baptized as Methodist, and had gone to church a couple times, but nothing substantial. I knew of God and Jesus, but I didn’t really know them, or understand their full meaning. I went to religious class when I was in Kindergarten, and had attended AWANA at a local Evangelical Free Church (EFC). Something did always feel missing though.
In 2004, I met my, now husband, through a co-worker of mine. He was friends with him since high school. I ended up starting to date him at the end of 2004, and eventually started going to mass with him. As time went on, he decided to ask me to marry him in 2006 and obviously, I said, “Yes”. Over the couple of years of attending mass with him, I had grown to want more from this church. So, with prepping to get married, and wanting more, I signed up to go through R.C.I.A. This was an enlightening period of time. I went through Confirmation and Holy Communion at the Easter Vigil. I’ve been a Catholic for about 12 years now. There was a time, that we were searching for a new parish to belong to, but never could find the right one. Thus, at one point we stopped going to mass on Sundays, or we would end up being very sporadic in the weeks we would go. Then, we found our current parish, St. Peter’s of Volo. It is a small, but growing branch of St. John Cantius of Chicago. We’ve felt so welcome, and at home here, that we’ve really become part of the community here.
Fast forwarding to today, there has been a lot going on in life, and I feel that my energies are not always directed in the proper direction. Thus, I have decided that I want to read through the Bible. I want to read the stories, and reflect on the lessons, and what they mean to me. The lessons may mean something else to you, but you’re welcome to come along on this journey. I’m going to try to stick to the guide I’ve found, but as we all know, life gets in the way, and I’m sure I will stumble and need to pick myself up again to push on, but I know God will be there the entire time, pushing me along.
It is late now, and we will start tomorrow fully, but now I have this outlet to reflect upon the readings each day. I hope you come along on your own journey as we make our way through the Bible and enrich our lives with the teachings and words of God.
Good night & may God bless you and your family.
